To encourage the advancement of women’s soccer within the Greater Lansing area and beyond by demonstrating the true spirit of soccer through competitive, fun and fair play.

Annual Membership Meeting

Our Annual Membership Meeting (AMM) will be held at Cleats Bar & Grille (5801 Aurelius Rd. Lansing, MI 48911) on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at 5:30 PM. This meeting is for anyone who has been a member (played and/or managed) of LAWS in 2016. This does not include guest players. The cost of your meal as well as (1) non-alcoholic fountain drink will be covered. LAWS will not be covering the cost of alcoholic beverages nor food items ordered that are not on the LAWS menu. The purpose of the AMM is to elect officers, discuss and/or vote on any proposed changes to LAWS bylaws or policies, and report on LAWS business. We hope that all members will make an effort to attend and be involved in the future of our league.

We are pleased to announce the following candidates for Executive Board Positions in 2017. Please take a moment to read a little about each member.

30+ Representative:

Amy McDaniels – Henhouse

My name is Amy McDaniels. I am a Medical Technologist (aka: Clinical Laboratory Scientist) at Sparrow Hospital.  I oversee compliance and education of ancillary laboratory testing performed at Sparrow Main Hospital, the St. Lawrence campus, the Sparrow practices, Urgent Cares, FastCares, and the residency programs.

I have been married for 25 years to a wonderful husband and we have 22 year old son who is our heart.

In my spare time when I'm not playing soccer, I love to read, garden, bake, and spend time with my family.

I have been playing soccer with LAWS for the past 10 years. I started playing at age 38 when a friend of mine invited me to play for HenHouse. I had no experience playing but fell in love with the game.  I have been passionate about outdoor soccer ever since and now manage the HenHouse team. I would be honored to be the representative of the 30+ division.

40+ Representative:

Melissa Long – Footloose

My name is Melissa Pieroni Long. I have played for Footloose for the past several years.  I also played for LAWS when I was a second year medical student (1994-95) although I don't recall that team's name.  I currently play fall, spring, and summer.  I play as a sub for Footloose during the winter.

I am a pediatrician at Pediatric Care of Lansing.  I have 3 children (15, 13, 10 years).

I am interested in contributing to LAWS as I believe it plays an important part in the health and social-emotional well-being of women in our community.

Kathleen Miller – Spartan Fuego

I'm Kathleen Miller and I've played with LAWS for about 10 years.  Most of that time I've played with Fuego.  I'm really proud of our team and the women I play with are excellent role models for young girls.  I believe in order for women's athletics to continue to gain in popularity we need to provide recreational opportunities for female athletes outside the high school and college.  As we grow older, get married and have children we still need to be stay active.  LAWS provides an opportunity to stay active, spend quality time with like-minded women, be competitive and enjoy a sport together.  I'm fortunate to have gained many friends through LAWS and I hope to gain even more in the years to come.  Please consider me for a 40+ rep.

Co-Chairwoman:

Jacquelynn Derrig – Challengers

My name is Jacquelynn Derrig and I have been with LAWS since 2013. I was a team manager when I first started and now happily play with The Challengers. I played soccer at Williamston High School and played premiere soccer with Michigan Chill. I love being a part of LAWS and would love to see our league continue to grow. I believe I can contribute new ideas and attempt to make a fantastic league even better.

League Administrator:

Kendra Culham – Great Balls of Fire

Hi, my name is Kendra Culham and I am the current League Administrator and am running again in 2017. I am interested in running for the position again because I have enjoyed the past year and would like to see the league continue to grow.

I play in the Open Division for Great Balls of Fire and have played/managed for the past few years.

I work at MSU in Human Resources and part-time at Soccer Zone.  In my spare time I enjoy running and binge watching TV shows.
